Macallan 14 Year Old SMWS Distillery 24 Rare Release – “Massive Oak Extraction” is a highly limited expression from The Macallan, independently selected and bottled by The Scotch Malt Whisky Society (SMWS) for the Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival 2023. Distilled in 2008 and matured for 14 years, this distinctive release was bottled in 2023 as part of the SMWS’s special Distillery Rare Release series. Only 2,554 bottles were produced.

The whisky was matured in a combination of first-fill and refill Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez sherry oak butts and hogsheads, giving the rich Macallan spirit substantial interaction with sherry-seasoned wood. The resulting profile is particularly oak-forward, with layers of dark fruit, dried fruit, rich spice, chocolate and deep sherry character, balanced by the natural weight and richness associated with Macallan.

Released under the memorable name “Massive Oak Extraction,” this 14-year-old Macallan is a distinctive addition to the SMWS range and an especially interesting bottle for collectors of independent Macallan releases. Its 2008 vintage, 14-year maturation, Distillery 24 designation and limited 2,554-bottle release make it a notable Speyside single malt with strong collector appeal.
