Macallan 12 Year Old SMWS 24.149 – The Scotch Malt Whisky Society is a highly distinctive single-cask expression from The Macallan, independently bottled by The Scotch Malt Whisky Society (SMWS). Distilled on 13 October 2008 and bottled in 2021 after 12 years of maturation, this release comes from Cask 24.149, one of the Society's specially selected Macallan casks. It was released as “Seared Foie Gras and Lingonberry Jam” / “Character and Grace” and limited to just 322 bottles.

The whisky was initially matured in first-fill Spanish oak Oloroso hogshead, giving it a deep and richly sherried character. SMWS tasting notes describe layers of gingerbread, malt loaf, cinnamon buns, raspberry and blackberry jam, followed by baked Alaska, pistachio, raspberry ice cream, dark chocolate, burnt raisins and fig. The combination of rich fruit, baking spices and Oloroso influence creates a particularly characterful expression of Macallan.

With its 12-year maturation, 2008 vintage, single cask 24.149, first-fill Oloroso sherry influence and extremely limited 322-bottle outturn, this SMWS Macallan is an appealing bottle for collectors and enthusiasts of independent Scotch whisky releases.
