Having been distilled in 2008, this Tomatin made the move to a Riversaltes Cask in 2017.
It’s a member of the ‘French Collection’, which sees Tomatin whiskies finished in French wine casks. In this instance, it’s produced a winning balance of sweet and bitter, with prominent barley in the nose.
Nose: Wine gum sweets, rubber tyres, coals on a barbeque. Bright hayloft and pistachios, followed by tropical rich mango and pineapple.
Palate: Slight edge of Fisherman’s Friend, more tropical fruit, corn on the cob and sweet ginger spice. Orange and almond cake round it out.
Finish: Quite metallic with almond sweetness, then, oddly, Bovril.
